Declaration of Arbroath 1320 and what makes it so special

The Declaration of Arbroath  is one of the most iconic documents ever written. It states, in clear terms, that Scotland wishes to be recognised as a free and equal country among countries.  It also emphasised the fact that Scotland was a peaceful country with the desire to be left alone to enjoy a future free from avaricious molestation but is prepared to fight to protect freedom. It also states that a King of Scotland will not be above being removed from office if their performance falls below the expectations of the Scottish people
This makes it a very progressive document for its day because it expresses values that were  500 years ahead of their time.
It was a major influence on the American Declaration of Independence some 456 years later where the Scots played a major role.
